Layout packs and layout overview

A layout pack is a collection of pre-designed scenes you can use to speed up your workflow.  Each scene within a layout pack can hold one layout. You can choose a layout from Descript's gallery of layout packs or create a custom layout to use with any scene.

Apply a layout to a scene

  1. Open the Scene panel in the sidebar on the right side of the Descript window.
  2. Select the Choose layout buttonBy default, you will be shown one of Descript's layout packs unless you have a default layout pack set in your drive preferences.
  3. Click a layout thumbnail to add the layout to your current scene. Note: Layouts cannot be applied to multiple scenes simultaneously.

More layout options

Descript also has even more options in the layout picker.

You can search for keywords in a given layout pack by clicking the search icon and typing in a key word such as "title" or "text".

If you would like to filter the layout results shown, click the filter button next to the search icon at the top of the layout picker window. You will have a few options available–Aspect ratio, Script layers, or Group by Scene type.

Click the options icon (three dots/ellipsis icon) on a layout to see even more options: save the current scene as a new layout, copy the current layout of the selected scene, paste a layout, reset the layout, or duplicate the current layout pack to make adjustments to make it your own to use in the current and future projects.

Saving and duplicating a scene to a new layout is only available for paid Descript plans.

To see other layouts and layout packs, click Change layout pack near the bottom of the layout picker window. This will bring you to a view where you can choose to view the layout packs in your Drive, Private workspace, or browse Descript's gallery of pre-made layout packs.

Layouts smartly add layers

When you add a layout to a scene that already contains visual or audio layers, any layer with the same name in both your scene and layout will be updated. A new layer will not be added from a layout in addition to your existing layer.

Important

Applying a second custom layout to a scene will remove any layers from the first layout and replace them with those in the second layout. Multiple layouts cannot be applied additively in the same scene.
