Example of a educational content template in Descript
How to create and save a template
- Open the template gallery by clicking Browse more templates on the Home tab
- Click + New template
-
Enter your prompt in the text field.
Tips for writing effective promptsA good prompt includes action (what needs doing), context (who it’s for, where it’s used), tone (how it should feel), format (what it should look like), and constraints (rules to follow). For a complete guide, see How to write effective prompts for Descript’s AI features.
- Optional: Add a link to a Descript share page to generate a preview video. If you’ve already created a project using this workflow, include that project’s share link here to show what the template produces.
- Click Continue.
-
On the next screen, add details about your template:
- Title: Give your template a descriptive name (60 characters max).
- Description: Explain what your template does (280 characters max).
- (Optional) Custom thumbnail: Upload your own image, or let Descript generate one.
- Tags: Add keywords to help you find this template later.
- Click Publish to save the template to your personal template gallery.
Known limitations
- You can’t edit or delete templates after saving:Once published, templates can’t be modified. To make changes, create a new template with your updated prompt. Editing existing templates is coming in a future update.
- Templates are private only: Templates you create are only visible to you. Sharing a custom template with the Drive or publishing publicly isn’t available quite yet.
- You can’t remix existing templates: To create a template similar to one of Descript’s gallery templates, you’ll need to create a custom template from scratch.
