Connect Descript to Zapier to build automated workflows without writing code. Descript’s Zapier integration reaches every generally available Descript API endpoint through its actions and searches. Descript provides actions and searches, not triggers. Start your Zap with an event from another app, then add a Descript step.

Connect your Descript account

  1. Create a Descript API token for the Drive you want the Zap to use.
  2. Create a Zap or open an existing one.
  3. Add a step, search for Descript, and select it.
  4. Under Account, select Connect a new account.
  5. Paste your Descript API token into the API Key field and continue.
Zapier labels the connection with its Descript Drive name.
Use your own API tokenEach team member should use their own token instead of sharing one connection across a Zapier organization. Use the same Descript connection for every Descript step in a Zap. A token only has access to its assigned Drive.

Project, composition, AI model, and job fields use dropdowns. You can select an item or map an ID from an earlier Zap step.

Build your Zap

  1. Choose an event from another app as the trigger.
  2. Add a Descript action or search.
  3. Choose the Descript connection associated with the Drive you want to use.
  4. Configure the fields. Map values from earlier steps where needed.
  5. Test the Descript step, then publish your Zap.
For imports from Google Drive or Dropbox, map the source app’s File output into Descript’s Media URLs field. Do not map a standard share link or the source app’s DownloadURL field.

Options that require a direct API request

The integration reaches every generally available endpoint, but its fields don’t expose every advanced request option. Use a direct API request from Zapier or n8n when you need options such as:
  • Uploading file bytes instead of importing from a URL
  • Setting the transcription language for each imported file
  • Creating multitrack sequences
  • Controlling composition dimensions, frame rate, or clip order
  • Placing a new project in a folder path
  • Exporting a transcript as DOCX or SRT
  • Applying advanced filters when listing projects or jobs
