How to generate video

Before generating a video, it may be helpful to know...

Descript lets you choose your generation model: To choose or change your generative model, open your App settings and select from the available options. Some tools have a built in model picker, such as Generate a video or Generate an image.

  1. Add or generate a starting image: Open AI Tools → Generate an image import your own image into your project.
  2. Select the image in the scene editor.

  3. Click the Underlord tab in the toolbar, then select Turn into video.

  4. Write a prompt describing the video you want to create from your starting image.
  5. (Optional): Select the cube icon to configure model parameters—see Model-specific parameters below.
  6. Click Generate.

Once your video is created, preview the clip in the sidebar. Replace the selected image layer in your composition if you want to use it.

Prefer to use Underlord?

You can also ask Underlord to generate video by selecting an image and typing “turn this into video” or “generate a video of [description]”. Note: you won’t be able to adjust video generation model parameters when using Underlord.

Model-specific parameters

Each model offers different customization options. The parameters you see update automatically based on your selected model (only supported options are shown).

Parameter Description
Duration Length of the generated video (in seconds).
Aspect ratio Choose from available aspect ratio sizes.
Resolution Set the output quality of the generated video.
Audio generation Available on select models (for example, Veo 3.1).
Last Frame Create smooth transitions between two images. Available on PixVerse v5, Veo 3.1, and Hailuo models. Learn more about using last frame.
