Legacy and Sunset plans track usage differently. See our Understanding your Legacy and Sunset plan guide for details.
Before getting started
Descript lets you choose your generation model: To choose or change your generative model, open your App settings and select from the available options. Some tools have a built in model picker, such as Generate a video or Generate an image.
For an overview of all available models and their strengths, see our Help Center guide Generative image and video models in Descript.
Option 1: Generate video manually
- Open or create a project, then open the AI Tools panel.
- Scroll to the Look Good section and select Generate an image.
- Upload a base image and/or enter a text prompt (for example, “illustrated laptop on white background” or “cartoon-style podcast logo”).
- (Optional) Select an art style from the library.
- Click Submit. Descript will generate four image options.
- Click an image thumbnail to add it to your scene. It will also be saved to your project files for reuse.
- Use the
icon to create variations of an image. Each variation counts toward your AI credit usage. Learn more about tracking your AI credit usage.
Option 2: Generate images with Underlord
Open the Underlord panel, describe the image you want to create, choose a visual style, and iterate as needed.
-
Ask Underlord to generate an image
Type a prompt describing the image and style you want Underlord to create. For example: “Generate an image of a capybara atop a fluffy white cloud gliding across the sky in a children's book style.”
- You can let Underlord decide the style, or choose a style from our style library.
- After generating an image, try asking: “Show me a few style options” or “Show me more styles.”
- Once you’ve found the image you want, you can have Underlord insert it directly into your project — or you can find all generated images in the AI Assets folder in your project panel.
Save and reuse AI images
Generated images are automatically saved in the AI Assets folder in your project panel. Deleting them from project files will permanently remove them, and they cannot be recovered.
Image generation limits
- Rate limit: Up to 5 prompts (15 images) per minute. If you exceed this, wait a few minutes before retrying.
- Daily max: Up to 270 image generation requests per day.
Content policy
AI image generation follows Descript’s safety guidelines and content standards. Please keep prompts respectful and G-rated.
Generate video
After generating images, you can animate them into a short video clip. Learn how to generate video with Underlord.
