Supported file types

Descript projects support importing the most common audio, video, and image files below.

Multi-channel audio

Descript does not currently support files with three or more audio channels in a single file. Please mix these down to stereo or split them into mono before importing. See Sequence overview for details on how to work with multi-track audio/video content.  

Descript's HDR support is currently in Beta. You may experience some slowness during rendering, exporting, and editing while we work on optimizing this feature.

*ProRes and QTRLE formats are only supported on our Creator, Business, and Enterprise plans. Please see our pricing page for more details. 

To confirm if your device supports 4K recording:

  • Open Chrome and go to: chrome://media-internals/
  • Open Edge and go to: edge://media-internals/
  • Look under the "Video Capture" tab to check your device’s supported resolutions.

If 4K is not listed, your device may not support 4K video capture with Descript.

*Although APAC/Spatial Audio files used on iPhone 16 models are supported. In Descript they will be treated as though recorded with stereo audio. 

Descript does not support files over 50 GB. Also note each plan has its own file upload size limits. Please see our pricing page for more details.
