Remove Embedded Subtitles in Locally Exported Videos
Stop Descript from embedding subtitle cards when you export a video locally.
A local export bakes subtitle cards into the video file, which can show up as doubled captions on some web players. To avoid that, publish to a Descript (web link) instead. Files downloaded from the share page don’t include embedded subtitles.
If you have captions in your composition, this can lead to duplicated or doubled captions in your export.

Web players often display the embedded subtitles from your exported composition during playback, but these will only appear if subtitles are enabled in the media player. If this happens, you can disable subtitles directly from your web player.
To avoid embedding subtitles, consider using the Descript (web link) export destination with your project instead of the Local export destination. Videos downloaded from a share page will not include embedded subtitles.
We share more information about the local exports and share page functions on our Export and publishing overview help page.
