Got video editing skills? Prove it with Descript-verified skills on your LinkedIn profile.
How does it work?
Descript automatically tracks your use of editing features across your projects. When you meet the requirements for a skill level, you'll see an in-app notification with the option to add the certified skill to your LinkedIn profile.
We currently offer three levels of Video Editing certification:
- Proficient: Foundational video editing skills
- Advanced: Intermediate editing techniques
- Expert: Comprehensive video editing expertise
Add your badge to LinkedIn
When you qualify for a skill, you'll see a notification in Descript the next time you log in.
Follow the prompt to securely connect Descript to LinkedIn. We add your badge automatically to your LinkedIn profile.
Manage your verified skills
Manage your LinkedIn connection and certified skills from Settings > Connected Apps > LinkedIn:
- View your current certifications to see which skills you've earned
- Connect or disconnect your LinkedIn account. Disconnecting will remove the certified skill from your LinkedIn profile.
Privacy and your data
What we share with LinkedIn
We only share the certification name and level you've earned (e.g., "Video Editing - Expert"). We don't share your projects, workspace activity, usage data, or any other information about your work in Descript.
Someone viewing your LinkedIn profile can see that you earned a certification, but they can't see which videos you edited, what features you used, or any details about your work.
Your LinkedIn privacy settings
Connecting Descript to your profile doesn't change any of your existing LinkedIn privacy settings. You control who sees your profile via your LinkedIn settings.
Account security
We use LinkedIn's secure OAuth authentication system to connect your accounts. Descript can only add verified skills to your profile — we can't post on your behalf, access your connections, or view any other LinkedIn data.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to qualify for a certification?
It depends. If you're already using a variety of Descript's editing features, you might qualify immediately. For others, it may take completing several projects.
Can I work toward multiple certifications?
Currently, we offer Video Editing certifications with three levels. In the future, we plan to add additional tracks for other skills.
Will I always get the entry-level certification first?
Not necessarily. When we calculate your eligibility, we look at all the features and tools you've used historically. If you've already been using advanced features across multiple projects, you might qualify for the Advanced or Expert level right away.
Can I unlink my accounts or connect later?
Yes. You can disconnect at any time from Settings > Connected Apps > LinkedIn — we'll remove your Descript badges from your profile when you disconnect Descript.Â
If you close the notification without connecting, you can always connect later from the same settings page. You can also click "Remind me later" to see the notification again on your next visit.
Is there a cost to get certified?
No, your Descript subscription includes verified skills. You don't pay any additional fee to earn or display certifications.
Will you add more certification tracks?
Yes! We're starting with Video Editing, and we plan to add tracks for other skills like Podcast Editing and specialized techniques in the future.
