Need a break from Descript? You can pause your subscription once per year for up to 3 months. While paused, billing stops and you won’t have access to your Drive or paid features. Your subscription will resume automatically on the date you choose.
Eligibility requirements
To pause your subscription, you must:
- Be the Drive owner or an admin with billing access
- Have a valid payment method on file
- Be on a monthly plan with current pricing (annual and legacy plans cannot be paused)
Pauses only affect upcoming invoices. If you schedule a pause after a failed payment attempt, Stripe will continue trying to collect payment even if you pause afterward.
To avoid issues, schedule your pause before your next invoice date. If you already have a past due invoice and need help, contact support.
Access and billing during a pause
While paused, you and your team won’t have access to Descript or project content. Billing stops during this time, though you may see $0 invoices in your Invoice history. If you resume before the pause ends, billing will restart on your original schedule.
How to pause your subscription
- Go to Settings > Plan > Change plan.
- Select Downgrade to Free.
- When prompted, choose Pause subscription.
- Pick how many months (1, 2, or 3).
- Confirm by clicking Pause subscription.
The pause takes effect immediately. If you’d like to cancel after resuming, see our Downgrade or cancel a subscription guide.
