Record computer audio

Record system audio directly into your composition with the Descript recorder–perfect for remote interviews, browser audio, or screen recordings.

Enabling computer audio

When you begin a screen recording, you’ll see the option to include audio from your computer. The available options depend on whether you’re using the Descript desktop app or the web version.

  • Desktop app: You can share audio from all apps.

  • Web browser: You can share audio from a specific tab.

System requirements for macOS

Computer audio for Mac is currently supported on macOS 10.14 and higher.

Tips & best practices

  • We recommend making a short test recording in Descript before starting your full session.
  • Some third-party apps won’t work with computer audio recording if they require selecting a specific output device and don’t offer a “Same as System” or “System Default” option.
  • For apps like Zoom or Discord, set the system audio output to Descript Loopback Audio after you start recording. This ensures Descript can capture the app’s audio properly.

Descript Loopback Audio

Once you start your recording, a new device called "Descript Loopback Audio" will be created on your Mac. This is the computer audio device.
