Paid Descript users can invite friends to try Descript and earn up to $20 cash per referral when their friend signs up and becomes a paying subscriber.

How the referral program works

1. Get your referral link: Click Earn up to $20 in the top-right corner of your Drive view to get your unique referral link.
2. Share your link: Send your link to friends or colleagues who have never created a Descript account before.
3. They sign up and subscribe: Your referral must click the Sign Up button on your referral page to receive their discount and ensure you get credit for the renewal.
4. You earn cash: Once they become a paid subscriber, you'll earn up to $20 cash.

How you earn cash

You'll earn a cash reward as your referral makes payments on their subscription. When your referral subscribes to a paid plan, you’ll earn 30% of their payments, up to $20 total per referral.

• Rewards are available within 7 days of your referral’s first successful payment.
• Payments are sent via PayPal or Venmo (US only).
• You can refer unlimited people — you’ll earn up to $20 for each one who subscribes.
• You must remain on a paid Descript plan to participate and receive rewards.

All payouts are handled securely by Cello, our referral partner. Choose between PayPal or Venmo (US only). Add your payment details by clicking Earn $20 in the top-right corner of your Drive view, then selecting the Rewards tab.

FAQs

Who can I refer?

You can refer brand-new users only — people who have never created a Descript account before. Referrals from existing or past users won’t qualify.

Can I refer more than one person?

Absolutely! You can refer as many new users as you’d like. You’ll earn up to $20 for every friend who subscribes through your link.

When will I receive my reward?

You’ll receive your reward within 7 days of your referral’s first successful payment. You’ll get an email notification and an in-app message once your reward is ready.

What if my referral already has a Descript account?

No. Even if someone has never subscribed to a paid plan, if they already have a free Descript account, they won’t count as a referral. The person must be completely new to Descript — no existing account of any kind.

What if my referral subscribes to a different plan?

If your referral subscribes to a monthly Business plan, they’ll receive a $17.50/month discount for 2 months (the same dollar amount as 50% off Creator). You'll still earn 30% of what they pay, up to the $20 cap.

If they subscribe to an annual Creator or Business plan, they’ll get a one-time discount of $17.50. You’ll receive the full $20 reward in your first payment.

What happens if my referral cancels their subscription?

You earn rewards as your referral makes payments. If they cancel, you stop earning additional rewards for future months.

Do I need to stay a paid user to participate?

Yes — you must remain on a paid Descript plan to access and keep participating in the referral program. If your account downgrades to Free or becomes inactive, you’ll lose access to your referral link and rewards.

Can affiliates join too?

If you’re part of Descript’s affiliate program, you’ll need to choose either the referral program or the affiliate program for each link you share — rewards can’t be combined.

How do I track my referrals?

Log into your Descript account and click Earn $20 in the top navigation bar. From there, you can see who you’ve referred and check the status of your rewards.

If you think you’re missing a reward, please wait 7 business days after your referral becomes a paid subscriber. After that, contact support with your referral’s name and email.

What countries are supported?

PayPal cash rewards are available to users in the following countries:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States, and more.

Venmo payouts are available for users in the United States.

Referral program guidelines

To keep the referral program fair for everyone, please follow these rules:

• No fraud or spam. Don’t use fake accounts, bots, or misleading tactics to generate referrals. Don’t post or send your referral link in unsolicited messages, comments, or mass emails.
• No paid ads. Don’t promote your referral link through paid advertising (like Google Ads, PPC, or social media ads) unless you’ve received written permission from Cello.
• No brand bidding. Don’t bid on Cello’s or Descript’s brand names, trademarks, or domain names in any advertising campaign.
• Be honest. Don’t make false claims, impersonate Cello or Descript, or pressure anyone to sign up.
• No self-referrals. Don’t use multiple accounts or refer yourself.
• Be transparent. Don’t claim an official partnership or endorsement with Cello or Descript unless one exists.
• Don’t post on deal or coupon sites. Referral links can’t be shared on public deal-sharing or coupon platforms where they may look like a general discount or promotion.
