Before getting started

Before hiding it, we recommend moving projects out of the General workspace and into a custom workspace first. Any projects that aren’t moved remain in General. These projects are still accessible by direct link, search, and via the Recents tab in the Drive view. Our team can assist with moving your projects. Projects can only be moved one at a time. If you need folders moved and/or have several projects in the General workspace that need to be relocated, reach out to us here.
Hiding General changes project access and visibilityGeneral is the only workspace every drive member belongs to automatically, and folders cannot be moved manually. Hiding General leaves the drive without a space where a project is visible to everyone. After General is hidden, projects can only be viewed by others in the same custom workspace.

To hide the General workspace:

  1. Open App Settings with the keyboard shortcut cmd/ctrl + , (comma)
  2. In the left sidebar, select the target drive from the dropdown menu
  3. Then, click Preferences.
  4. Under Publish Privacy, turn off Show General workspace. If the switch is disabled, create a custom workspace first.
  5. A confirmation dialog appears — review it and click Yes, hide General to confirm.
Hide General Workspace App Settings When hidden, the General workspace no longer appears in the drive sidebar for any member. Existing content stays fully accessible through direct links, search, and Recents. However, no new projects or folders can be added to General through any path — including in-app create or move actions, the API, and MCP.
