Automatic multicam

Available on all plans, our Automatic Multicam feature makes editing multicam footage effortless by automatically selecting the best camera angles, perspectives, and layouts to highlight active speakers. This intelligent tool keeps your tracks perfectly synced and transitions seamless, so you can focus on creating engaging, professional-quality content without the manual work.

Whether you’re editing a video with multiple viewpoints or managing a podcast featuring several speakers, Automatic Multicam adapts to your project, streamlining the process and helping you produce polished results with ease.

This feature works best when your clips are organized into sequences. The Automatic setting requires your clips to be organized into sequences for it to function correctly. The Show Only Active Speaker setting works without sequences, but sequences can still help streamline your workflow.

How to Use Automatic Multicam

  1. Navigate to Underlord's Look Good actions

    • Go to the right sidebar of your project and click Underlord.
    • Under the Looks good section, you will see an option to select Automatic Multicam.
  2. Select Your Preferences:

      • Style: Choose between Automatic or Show only active speaker.
        • The Automatic setting will allow Underlord to show multiple speakers at the same time during back-and-forth dialogue and use Cutaways to show other speakers to break up a monologue.
        • Show only active speaker does just that. No cutaways will be added to show both speakers simultaneously. This is great if you want more control over when cuts are made.

If you use "Show only active speaker" and the composition already has a single speaker layout applied before running the action, the layout will be retained.

    • Cutaways: Select the frequency of cutaways (e.g., Occasional) from the dropdown menu. This setting determines how often Underlord will cut away to show other speakers during a monologue.
      • Occasional: Scenes will have a max duration of 30 seconds, with a 3s cutaway inserted if the monologue is longer.
      • Frequent: Scenes will have a max duration of 10 seconds, with a 3s cutaway inserted if the monologue is longer.
      • None: Scenes will not have a maximum duration, meaning no cutaways will be inserted.
    • Camera Setup: Click on the Camera setup icon to configure your camera settings.
      • These settings allow you to set what camera in your sequence is tied to what audio track. This is crucial for making sure we cut to the individual talking.
    • Layout pack: You can also apply a layout pack while using Underlord’s Automatic multicam feature. A Layout pack is a collection of layouts, and Underlord will select individual layouts based on the number of speakers in each scene.

  3. Submit Your Settings:

    • Once you have configured your preferences, click on the Submit button.
    • A warning will appear stating, "Existing scenes will be overwritten," as Underlord will add new scenes for each camera change if the composition already has multiple scenes.
    • Depending on the length of your project, it may take some time for Underlord to apply the layout pack of your choice throughout your project. Note that stopping this process does not revert the changes but simply stops Underlord from continuing to apply changes throughout the project.
