Correct your transcript

Descript's correction tools let you fix misspelled words, adjust punctuation, and add words the transcription missed — all without changing your underlying audio or video.

This article covers:

Fix incorrect words

When Descript transcribes a word incorrectly or misses a word entirely, fix the transcript without changing your audio.

  1. Double-click the word (or adjacent word) to select it.
  2. Click Correct in the hover toolbar, or press C.
  3. Type the correct word.
  4. Choose an option:
    • Correct — Fix only this instance.
    • Correct All — Fix every instance of this word in your project.

After you make a correction, Descript re-analyzes your media to adjust alignment. A dotted gray underline appears while Descript checks the alignment.

Make edits in bulk with Correct mode

  1. Press Opt+C (Mac) or Alt+C (Windows) to enter Correct text mode.
  2. Click any word and type your correction — no need to click Correct each time.
  3. Press Opt+C or Alt+C again to exit Correct text mode.

Fix punctuation and capitalization

Use these keyboard shortcuts to correct text:

  • Hold Z + click a word to toggle capitalization (lowercase → Sentence case → UPPERCASE).
  • Hold X + click a word to cycle through punctuation (period → comma → question mark → no punctuation).
  • Highlight a word, then press C to correct spelling.

Windows users

Some laptops disable the touchpad while typing. If Z + click or X + click does not work, try using an external mouse or adjusting your touchpad settings so it stays active while typing.
