Project settings

You can manage your project settings by the menu in the top left of a project and selecting File > Project settings.

 

 

Setting Description
Optimize computer storage Only download original files when they're needed. Learn more about project files
Perform automatic leveling on clips Automatically apply -16dB loudness normalization to all audio in your project
Add room tone to new gap clips Apply room tone to gap clips instead of silence

Apply setting changes to all new projects

Project settings can be set for individual projects or applied as the default settings for all new projects. If you choose to set your project settings as the default for new projects, this will apply the settings to your App settings.

View settings in Descript projects

The View menu in Descript allows you to customize the layout and functionality of your workspace to suit your workflow better or to allow you to access parts of Descript quickly. Here's a breakdown of the available options:

Theme:

Customize the appearance of your interface with different themes. You can choose from Light, Dark, or System. These can also be adjusted in the app settings.

Canvas Options:

  • Expand/shrink canvas (⌘.): Adjust the size of your canvas for better visibility or focus.
  • Hide canvas (⇧⌘V): Temporarily hide the canvas to declutter your workspace.
  • Move canvas (⇧⌘V): Move the canvas for better alignment with your workflow.

Editing and Display:

  • Show edit boundaries: Show edit symbols in your script to easily see where an edit was made.
  • Underline filler words: Visualizes filler words for easier identification and editing.
  • Underline word errors: Marks errors in text, helping ensure accuracy.

Library Toggles:

  • Toggle project contents (⌘C): Show or hide the Project panel showing the contents of your current project.
  • Toggle stock library (⌘L): Access or hide the Stock panel and library for media assets.
  • Toggle layout pack library (⌘P): Enable or disable the layout pack library for predesigned templates.

Additional Features:

  • Toggle comments: View or hide comments added to your project.
  • Toggle layer properties (⇧⌘D): Access layer-specific settings and adjustments via the Layer pannel.
  • Snap to guides (⇧⌘'): Enable snapping to guides for precise alignment.

Timeline Controls:

  • Toggle timeline (⌘S): Show or hide the timeline for managing clips.
  • Zoom in timeline (⌘=): Zoom in to see finer details in your timeline.
  • Zoom out timeline (⌘-): Zoom out for an overview of your timeline.

Other Settings:

  • Toggle volume in timeline (⌘U): Enable or disable volume visualization (VU meter) at the top of the timeline.
  • Show volume as decibels: Display audio levels in decibels (dB) for precise sound editing.
