Turn your live presentation into a polished, reusable video. With Descript, you can record yourself once, edit your content, and style your video — all in one place.
This guide walks through setting up and recording a slideshow presentation using the Editor Recorder in Descript.
If you’d rather upload a PDF of your slides and turn them into a video without recording live, learn how to import a slide deck into Descript →
Record your presentation
- Open a new or existing project in the Descript desktop app. Click Record in the play dock at the bottom of the Descript Editor, then select Screen from the menu that appears.
- The screen recorder dock will open. Use the panels at the bottom of the dock to select your camera, microphone, and the window or screen you’d like to record. Toggle computer audio recording from the button at the top of the dock window.
- Make any needed adjustments to your recording settings.
- Do a final check — make sure you’re in frame and your preview looks right.
- Click Record to begin your presentation.
Share just your audience view window. Descript will record the audience-facing view while you read from your presenter notes.
Edit your presentation
Once you're finished recording, Descript automatically groups your multi-track recording into a sequence and inserts it into your script. This keeps your camera, microphone, and screen sharing tracks in sync while you edit. Learn more about sequences.
Polish your presentation with Descript tools
Once you’ve recorded your presentation, refine it using Descript’s editing tools:
- Create scenes to match your slides – Descript doesn’t automatically add scenes for each slide, but you can insert them manually as you edit. Learn more about scenes.
- Apply layouts for a polished look – Layouts let you quickly style your video with clean framing options, background colors, and presets — no design skills needed.
- Remove filler words – Instantly cut out “ums,” “uhs,” “likes,” and other speech fillers.
- Studio Sound – Use this audio enhancement to remove background noise and echo for a clean, professional sound.
- Add captions – Make your presentation more accessible. Click Captions in the sidebar to turn them on and choose a style.
