Import a PDF of your presentation into Descript to turn your slide deck into a video. Create a narrated walkthrough, a demo, or an educational video without redesigning a thing. Each slide is converted into an image you can edit just like any other media.
This article covers:
- How to import a slide deck as a PDF
- What happens when your slides are imported
- How to start building your video with scenes or Underlord
- Descript currently supports PDF (.pdf) slide decks only. You won’t be able to import .pptx or .key files.
- Each slide is imported as a static image. Animations, transitions, and embedded media (like video or audio) aren’t preserved.
Import your slide presentation
- Create a new project or open an existing one.
- Open the Project panel in the right-hand sidebar.
- Drag and drop your PDF file into the Files section.
Descript will convert each slide into a .jpg image and store them in your Project Files. You can add them to scenes like any other media layer.
Start building your video
Once your slides are imported, you can build your video in one of two ways:
Option 1: Let Underlord build it for you
Skip the heavy lifting. Underlord, Descript’s AI co-editor, can turn your slides into a video—fast. Just describe what you want, and Underlord will handle the rest. Learn what Underlord can do
Try prompting with "turn these slides into a narrated video I can post on YouTube."
Option 2: Build manually, scene by scene
Prefer full control? You can:
- Upload or record a voiceover
- Create a scene for each slide
- Rearrange, duplicate, or delete scenes like any other visual
Scenes and layers are the building blocks of your video.
