Why do my SquadCast recordings have inconsistent frame rates?

SquadCast records using a Variable Frame Rate, but we do our best to record at 30 frames per second (FPS). SquadCast will request a frame rate of 30 fps from the browser. However, if the encoder can't meet that demand, the browser may start to reduce both bitrate and fps in order to keep recording the session in real time.

If you're noticing stuttering visuals (where the movement on the screen seems to lag or skip rather than flow smoothly), a delay between the audio and video streams, and/or the pace of the recording feels off  (recording feels sluggish or rapid movements appear blurred) it's possible slow or poor frame rate is impacting your video quality.

Importing VFR files into Descript

Whenever a video file is brought into Descript (whether via the Edit in Descript integration or the standard import flow) Descript will set the frame rate of the entire composition based on the frame rate of the first imported file.

If needed, you can adjust this in Descript via the Aspect Ratio and Video Settings menu. For more info see this guide: Aspect ratio and video settings.
