Aspect ratio and video settings

You can adjust your composition's aspect ratio, frame rate, and video resolution by selecting the box icon in the top left corner of the Canvas.

Descript editor with red circle around aspect ratio and video settings icon

From the dropdown menu, you can set your aspect ratio to Landscape, Square, Portrait, or choose Advanced... to customize your video settings:

Settings
Frame rate (FPS) Set FPS to 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94, or 60
Video resolution Select your video resolution 720p, 1080p, 1440p, or 4K from the top left corner of the dropdown panel
Aspect ratio Set your video composition’s aspect ratio to square (1:1), vertical (9:16), horizontal (16:9), or a custom ratio
Video quality and export resolution

While Descript supports exports of up to 4k resolution, it's important to note that the actual resolution of exported videos is dependent upon the quality of the imported media.

For example, if you import a video at 1080p resolution, but later export it at 4k resolution, Descript will not up-sample the video quality and the resulting file will still appear to be 1080p.
