What are the video attributes? Framerate, bit rate, audio bit rate, bit depth, etc?
Descript Rooms offers high-quality recordings, but specific attributes like framerate, bit rate, audio bit rate, and bit depth depend on your Room settings. More details can be found here Room settings.
How do I get to SquadCast now that I have Rooms?
To continue using SquadCast, you’ll need to go directly to the SquadCast website. Rooms and SquadCast are separate during the Beta phase, and both can be used for different recording purposes.
How do I tell if I have Descript Rooms?
If you have access to Descript Rooms, you’ll see an option to create a Room from your dashboard. If not, you may need to request access or wait for the full release.
What happens with the files after recording?
Once recording ends, your Descript project will organize files into a “Recordings” folder. Backup files, such as isolated tracks, will be available immediately, while primary files are uploaded and processed before appearing in your project. These are organized as follows: Recordings > Primaries, Backups. More details can be found here Editing a Descript Rooms Project
Why are you launching a second double-ended recorder?
Descript Rooms builds on the vision we started with SquadCast, combining high-quality multitrack recording, progressive uploads, and guest-friendly features directly into Descript. Our goal is to streamline the recording-to-editing process within a single platform, offering a comprehensive solution for users.
Which one should I use – SquadCast or Rooms?
Since Rooms is still in Beta, there may be some bugs and polish issues. For critical, high-stakes recordings, we recommend using SquadCast for its proven stability. However, if you would like to try new features and don't mind a few bugs, Rooms is a great choice for recording.
Is Descript Rooms free?
Both SquadCast and Rooms are included for free with your Descript subscription during the Beta phase. Once Rooms is fully released, subscription-based limitations may apply, but for now, you can try it at no additional cost.
Do Descript Rooms projects use transcription and AI limits differently?
Currently, using Rooms does not count against your transcription balance during the Beta. Once fully launched, we will provide updates on any subscription-based limits related to transcription and AI usage.
Will SquadCast go away?
Eventually, Descript Rooms will replace SquadCast, but this is a gradual process. We’ll provide plenty of notice before the transition, along with training materials, help center content, and walkthroughs to make the switch as smooth as possible. We don’t have a specific sunset date for SquadCast yet, but when the time comes, you will have ample notice and preparation, along with resources to help you make the transition to Rooms.
Will this be more reliable than SquadCast?
Eventually yes, Rooms is being built with improved reliability in mind, offering dynamic uploads and better protection against data loss. Unlike SquadCast, Rooms can adjust call fidelity separately from recording quality, ensuring a higher quality final recording and smoother recovery if a guest leaves the session early.
I like SquadCast and don’t want this replacement.
Rooms will not replace SquadCast until it meets or exceeds its capabilities. If you are part of the Beta, we encourage you to try Rooms and share your feedback. Your input is valuable in making Rooms the best possible tool.
Does Rooms support my browser or device?
Currently, Rooms supports Chrome and Chromium-based browsers only. As development progresses, we plan to add support for other browsers and mobile devices.
Will features like shows and show manager logins from SquadCast transfer to Descript Rooms?
We’re still finalizing the details of how SquadCast features will integrate with Rooms. Our goal is to refine and improve upon SquadCast's strengths, making the platform even more accessible and user-friendly. Your feedback is key in shaping these updates, so feel free to submit feature requests for anything you’d like to see.
