Descript Room settings

Adjust audio, video, and session preferences to optimize your Descript Room experience. You can access these settings before joining a Room or anytime during your session.

Access Room settings

Click your profile image in the upper-right corner to access the Settings menu. This menu is available both before joining and during your Room session.

General settings

Setting Description
Theme Adjust your theme (system, light, or dark mode).
Chat notifications Choose when to see chat notifications: only when chat is closed, always, or never.
Participant waiting room Manually admit participants or allow them to join automatically. Learn more about approving join requests.
Automatically admit with role When auto-admit is enabled, set the role of participants who join automatically. Learn more about roles in Descript Rooms.
Producer chime Toggle a sound notification when a Producer is speaking. (Business and Enterprise only)
Default emoji skin tone Set the default skin tone for emojis used in chat.

Audio settings

Setting Description
Echo cancellation Helps reduce crosstalk and mic bleed. Recommended only if you're not using headphones.
Background noise reduction On by default; filters distracting sounds.
Auto gain control Automatically adjusts microphone gain.
Recording quality
  • Auto (high quality): Records at 48kHz and adjusts playback based on connection.
  • Generate lossless audio files: When enabled, creates a separate WAV file per participant (Chrome only).

Video settings

Setting Description
Aspect ratio Choose 1:1 (square) or 16:9 (landscape) layout.
Frame up your shot Use grid or silhouette overlays to center your shot—or disable overlays entirely.
Recording quality Records at up to 4K if supported by your camera. Uses the highest resolution available.
Room call quality
  • Auto (Recommended): Adjusts dynamically to maintain the highest quality based on your network.
  • Bandwidth saver: Disables incoming video to preserve bandwidth. Useful on slow connections.
