Record conversations directly inside Descript with Desscript Rooms– high-quality video and automatic multi-track audio with no separate apps or setup required. Learn how to use Rooms.
You can connect your Zoom account directly to Descript to quickly import your cloud recordings for editing. This integration helps you automatically set up new projects, add files to your composition, transcribe recordings, assign speaker labels, and prepare everything for immediate editing.
If you have a shareable Zoom cloud recording link, you can import your recording into Descript without connecting your Zoom account. Learn how to import your Zoom recording from a URL.
Connect Zoom to Descript
If your organization restricts the use of Zoom apps, your IT department or administrator must grant permission to connect Descript's Zoom integration with your corporate Zoom account. Additionally, please ensure that the domain *zoom.us is whitelisted.
- Open Descript: Fire up the Descript app on your device.
-
Navigate to Settings: Click on your profile picture or initials in the top right corner to open the dropdown menu, then hit Settings.
-
Connect with Zoom: Select “Connect with Zoom”. This gives Descript access to import files directly from Zoom.
- Now you are ready to import your zoom recordings!

Optimize your Zoom Settings
Before you record, adjusting a few Zoom settings can improve the quality of your imported files and make editing easier in Descript. You can manage these settings in your Zoom web portal under Settings > Recording.
See Zoom's Support article on adjusting your cloud recording settings.
We strongly recommend enabling these options:
- Record to the cloud: Descript can only import cloud recordings, not recordings saved directly to your device.
- Record in high-definition video:improves the visual quality of your recordings.
- Record a separate audio track for each participant: makes speaker labeling and editing much easier.
Zoom cloud recordings combine all participants into a single video file — it's not possible to import separate video tracks for each speaker into Descript.
If you need individual video tracks for each participant, you can record conversations directly in Descript Rooms. Rooms automatically captures high-quality video and multi-track audio, making it easy to edit each person separately. Learn how to use Rooms.
Additional Recommended Settings:
- Optimize the recording for 3rd-party video editors: improves frame rate and compatibility for editing.
- Record active speaker with shared screen separately: creates separate video files when someone shares their screen.
- Uncheck Add a timestamp to the recording and Display participants' names in recordings: This will avoid adding burnt-in timestamps and participant names to the recordings imported into Descript.
Increase Video Resolution
Zoom doesn’t automatically record meetings in HD by default. To ensure your imported video looks its best in Descript, Enable Meeting (HD) Video Quality in your Zoom settings. HD recording may not be available for all account types. Check with your Zoom admin if you don’t see the option.

Disconnect Zoom from Descript
If you no longer wish to have your Zoom and Descript accounts connected, you can follow these steps to unlink the two accounts:
- Open your account settings and select Connected Apps under the Account section.
-
Log out: Next to the Account connected setting, select the dropdown with your connected Zoom account, and select Log out from the drop-down.
Once logged out, you will not be able to import or create projects from Zoom using this integration; however, any recordings that were imported in the past will remain fully accessible.
