Troubleshooting Incomplete or Partial SquadCast Recordings

If your SquadCast recording appears cut short, partial, or incomplete in Descript, there are a few common causes — and ways to recover your files.

SquadCast creates two types of recordings:

  • Primary recordings: Captured and temporarily stored in the participant’s browser during the session, then progressively uploaded to SquadCast.
  • Cloud backup recordings: Saved to SquadCast’s cloud servers during your recording session, as a fallback if the primary upload fails.

Primary recordings are stored temporarily in the participant’s browser tab during the session — they are not saved directly to the computer or device.

If the primary recording fails, you may still be able to recover your session from the cloud backup.

Common causes of incomplete recordings

Participant left the session early

If a participant leaves the recording session before their upload finishes, the recording may be incomplete or missing.

Tip: SquadCast displays a pop-up reminder asking participants to stay connected until uploads complete.

Network interruptions

A weak or unstable internet connection can prevent full uploads of the primary recordings.

Bluetooth devices (AirPods, wireless headphones)

Bluetooth devices can cause recording issues because:

  • They may not support high-quality audio (48kHz sample rate).
  • Bluetooth introduces audio latency.
  • Some Bluetooth devices aren’t recognized properly by the browser.
  • The sample rate may not match SquadCast’s recommended settings.

For the best recording experience, use wired headphones and microphones when recording. Learn more about adjusting your microphone sample rate.

How to recover your SquadCast recording

If your primary recording is incomplete, you may still be able to recover your session using SquadCast’s cloud backups. Learn how to recover your SquadCast cloud backup recording.

Important note about recovery

If both the primary and cloud backup recordings are incomplete, it may not be possible to fully recover the file.
