Troubleshooting "This Drive is linked to...you are not a member..."

You may see this message when trying to link a Descript drive to a SquadCast organization:

This Drive is linked to [Org Name]. You are not a member of [Org Name].

This usually means one of the following:

  • You're trying to link a Descript drive that’s already connected to a SquadCast organization you’re not part of
  • You’re not the owner of the Descript drive you're using

How to resolve this

Error message indicating user is not a member of the linked SquadCast organization

Try switching drives

If you have access to more than one Descript drive, select a different drive from the dropdown and try linking again.

If you’re not the drive owner

Only the owner of a Descript drive can link it to SquadCast. If you're not the owner, ask them to complete the linking process or invite you to their SquadCast organization.

Invite team members to the SquadCast org

If you're the drive owner, you can invite collaborators to your SquadCast organization at no extra cost.

Here's how:

  1. Go to your SquadCast team members page.
  2. Select Invite team members and enter their email.
  3. They’ll receive an invitation with instructions to accept and join the org.

For more about roles and permissions, see this article on Team Members.

Still having trouble? If the drive and organization you’re trying to link are both correct but something was accidentally linked to a different org or drive, reach out to support and we’ll help you get it sorted.

Want an easier way to record?

Descript Rooms offer a simple way to record with others — no linking drives or managing account permissions. Just open a Room, start recording, and your files will be ready to edit in Descript right after.
