Downgrade or cancel a subscription

When you downgrade or cancel a subscription, you’ll lose access to the paid features included in your current plan at the end of the billing period, but you’ll still have access to your projects.

Plan changes take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. To avoid unexpected charges, make changes before your next renewal date.

Before you get started

  • Cancelling an account for someone who no longer works at your company? Descript support can only process cancelation requests from the account email address. If the original owner has left your company, work with your IT team to regain access or reinstate the email. Contact our support team with additional questions.
  • Cancelling a subscription to a legacy plan? Once you switch off a legacy plan, you won’t be able to return—even if you change your mind. Learn more about legacy plans.

Cancel a subscription

When you cancel your subscription, Descript downgrades your Drive to the Free plan. You’ll keep access to your projects, but features will be limited.

  1. Log in at web.descript.com or open the desktop app.
  2. In the top-right corner, click your profile icon and select Settings. AppSettings.png
  3. If you own multiple Drives, use the Drive picker in the left sidebar to select the correct Drive.
  4. Under the Subscription tab, click Change plan. Change plan UI

  6. Complete the short feedback form, then click Complete cancelation. Cancel confirmation step

Downgrade a subscription

You can downgrade to a lower-tier subscription level, and the change will take effect at the end of your current monthly or annual billing cycle.

  1. Log in at web.descript.com or open the app.
  2. In the top-right corner, click your profile icon and choose Settings. AppSettings.png
  3. If you own multiple Drives, select the correct Drive in the sidebar.
  4. Go to the Subscription tab, then click Change plan. Change Plan button
  5. Select a new plan and billing cycle.
  6. Adjust any paid seats or transcription hours if needed.
  7. Click Save changes.

Resume a subscription

If you change your mind after scheduling a cancelation or downgrade, you can cancel the pending change any time before the current billing period ends (and the cancellation takes effect).

  1. Log in at web.descript.com or open the app.
  2. Open Settings.

  3. Select the correct Drive from the left sidebar.
  4. In the Subscription tab, click to cancel the pending change. Cancel pending change
