What is Progressive Upload?
Progressive Upload is a patented technology used by SquadCast to ensure the highest quality and reliability in your recording sessions. This method uploads your recording in small chunks (typically about 5 seconds at a time) while the session is ongoing, rather than waiting until the recording is finished. This approach helps minimize data loss and ensures smooth, uninterrupted recording sessions.
How Does It Work?
When you record in SquadCast, the data is temporarily stored in the browser window. To check this, you can hover over the browser tab (in Chrome, for example) to see the memory usage. Due to the limitations of browser storage, especially when recording in high resolution, SquadCast uploads your recording progressively. This means that your audio or video data is continuously uploaded to the cloud in real-time, reducing the risk of data loss due to interruptions like internet disconnections or browser crashes.
Benefits of Progressive Upload:
- Time-Saving: Recordings are uploaded in real-time, eliminating the need for lengthy upload times post-session. This allows you to access your recordings almost immediately after your session ends.
- Reliability: Even if your session is interrupted (e.g., WiFi drops, browser crashes), the uploaded chunks are safe, and you can continue recording from where you left off. SquadCast’s system automatically detects interruptions, stops the recording, and saves the uploaded data, ensuring nothing that has been uploaded is lost.
- Quality Assurance: By uploading in small increments, SquadCast ensures that even high-resolution recordings are handled efficiently without overloading local resources. This process avoids compression during network transmission, maintaining high audio and video quality.
- Seamless Experience: Progressive Uploads enable faster rendering of recordings post-session, allowing users to review, edit, and share their content without waiting for the entire file to upload at once.
Tips for Optimal Use:
- Stay Connected: Ensure a stable internet connection, preferably with 10 Mbps upload and download speeds for the best experience. This helps maintain the smooth operation of the progressive upload process.
- Keep the Session Open: To avoid losing your primary recordings, make sure to keep SquadCast open until the recording has finished uploading. Closing the session too soon can interrupt the upload process.
- Backup Files: SquadCast also provides cloud backups recorded at a lower resolution, ensuring you always have a reliable copy of your recording. These backups are less resource-intensive and can be a lifesaver if any issues occur with the primary high-resolution files.
