Creating captions for your videos

Captions and subtitles play a crucial role in making content more engaging and accessible to a broader audience. Believe it or not, most videos on social media are viewed with the sound off. So the best way to get your message across is to add subtitles. This guide walks you through how to quickly add custom captions to your videos.

1. Add in your captions

Add captions in just a few clicks:

  1. Open Captions icon.png Captions in the sidebar; at the top of the panel, choose where you want to apply the captions:
    • All scenes: add the captions to your entire video.
    • This scene: display the captions only in the currently active scene.
  2. Select the style you want to apply. After adding the captions, you can fully customize them as needed.

2. Customize the look and style

Descript starts you off in the right directions with captions by providing a wide range of styles you can choose from. On top of that, you any customize any captions you add to your videos to align with your brand's identity and style. 


Here’s how you can customize your captions:

  • You can position your captions by clicking and dragging them on the Canvas and control the number of words displayed by resizing the text box boundary.
  • From the Layer panel, select your desired font, font style, size, alignment, and casing. Make sure you have selected your captions in the Canvas to see their properties
