Creating captions for your videos

Captions and subtitles play a crucial role in making content more engaging and accessible to a broader audience. Believe it or not, most videos on social media are viewed with the sound off. So the best way to get your message across is to add subtitles. This guide walks you through how to quickly add custom captions to your videos.

  1. Highlight the script portion of the video where you want to add caption, or press Cmd + A (Mac) or Ctrl + A (Windows) to select your entire project's script. The Selection toolbar will appear at the top of your script selection.
  2. Click on the + icon in Selection toolbar the and choose Captions icon.png captions. Or, click T > captions at the top of the editor.

Once you have your video edited in Descript, adding captions is the next step towards enhancing your content's accessibility and engagement.

Customizing the look and style

Descript allows you to customize your captions to align with your brand's identity and style. Here’s how you can tailor your captions.

  1. From the Canvas You can position your captions by clicking and dragging them on the Canvas and control the number of words displayed by resizing the text box boundary.
  2. From the Properties panel, select your desired font, font style, size, alignment, and casing. Make sure you have selected your captions in the Canvas to see their properties
