Troubleshooting and recovering project edits that appear to have disappeared

If the unexpected happens and changes or edits you've made to your project have not been saved or appear to disappear, please follow the steps below.

Check your other compositions
In large projects with many compositions, it can be easy to get lost or confused. Please be sure to check the composition you are viewing and make sure the one you are viewing is the one you recently made edits on.
Check the project's version history
You may be able to recover your project's data by restoring a previous version from the project's history. Click here to learn about restoring a project version.
Contact support
If you can't recover the project data from your project history, we recommend reaching out to customer support for assistance. The Descript team will see if the missing data can be restored, and gather details to fix the issue so it doesn’t happen again.

You’ll need to provide a project backup file when reaching out to support. To get this file:

  1. Open the project.
  2. At the top of your screen, select Help > Debug > Export project backup...
  3. Select the location on your computer where you want to save the backup file. We recommend saving the file to your desktop so you can easily retrieve it.
  4. Select Save.
