Create a sequence

If you're working with multiple audio or video tracks from the same interview, creating a sequence is the best way to keep everything in sync. A sequence acts like a container for those tracks, letting you edit them together in a single, unified transcript and timeline.

Current limitations

Descript currently supports up to 14 tracks in a sequence.

Create a sequence with new files (not yet added to your project)

  1. Drag your media files into the script panel of your composition.
  2. When prompted, assign speaker labels to each file — Descript will automatically apply them throughout the transcript.
  3. Click Combine into sequence to sync your files into a new sequence. If you choose Keep separate, Descript will add your files one after the other in the composition, without syncing them into a sequence.

  4. If you didn't already, be sure to insert your sequence into the script.

When a sequence is added to your script, edits apply across all linked files — helping you keep everything in sync.

Need to re-align your sequence?

If the recordings didn’t start at the same time, you can adjust individual sequence tracks from the Sequence Editor.

Create a sequence from existing project files

If your files are already imported into the project, you can create a sequence directly from the Files panel.

  1. Click Project on the right side of your editor.
  2. Select the files you want to include.
  3. Click Create sequence.
  4. The Sequence Editor will open where you can adjust files as needed.
  5. Once you've added your files, insert your sequence into the script.

Create an empty sequence

If you're planning to add content later or build a sequence manually, you can start with an empty sequence. This gives you full control over how you structure and arrange tracks.

  1. Click Project in the right sidebar of your editor.
  2. Click the three-dot menu under the Files section.
  3. Select Create sequence.Create empty sequence from the file menu.
  4. Use the Sequence Editor to start adding and organizing your media files.
  5. Once you've added your files, insert your sequence into the script for editing.

Add your sequence to a composition
