# Troubleshooting and Recovering Project Edits That Appear to Have Disappeared

> Recover missing edits by checking compositions or restoring from version history.

If the unexpected happens and changes or edits you've made to your project have not been saved or appear to disappear, please follow the steps below.

    In large projects with many compositions, it can be easy to get lost or confused. Please be sure to check the composition you are viewing and make sure the one you are viewing is the one you recently made edits on.

    You may be able to recover your project's data by restoring a previous version from the project's history. Click here to [learn about restoring a project version](/working-in-projects/version-history).

  <Accordion title="If nothing else works">
    If you need help recovering the project data from your project history, we recommend [reaching out to customer support for assistance](/connect-with-us/get-help) or replying to an open request. The Descript team will see if the missing data can be restored and gather details to fix the issue so it doesn’t happen again.

    You’ll need to provide a project backup file when reaching out to support. To get this file:

    1. Open the project.
    2. At the top of your screen, select **Help > Debug > Export project backup...**
    3. Select the location on your computer where you want to save the backup file. We recommend saving the file to your desktop so you can easily retrieve it.
    4. Select **Save.**
