# Project Settings
> Adjust transcription, leveling, and room tone settings for a Descript project.
Manage your project settings by the menu in the top left of a project and selecting **File > Project settings**.
| Setting | Description |
| ----------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Optimize computer storage | Only download original files when they're needed. [Learn more about project files](/working-in-projects/project-file-management) |
| Perform automatic leveling on clips | Automatically apply -16dB loudness normalization to all audio in your project |
| Add room tone to new gap clips | Apply [room tone](/effects-animations-transitions/room-tone) to [gap clips](/timeline/using-gap-clips) instead of silence |
## Apply setting changes to all new projects
Project settings can be set for individual projects or applied as the default settings for all new projects. If you choose to set your project settings as the default for new projects, this will apply the settings to your [App settings](/account-and-app-settings/app-settings).
