Creating a Sequence

If you're looking to combine multiple tracks of narrative audio and/or video from the same interview, Sequences provide a simple way to keep your media synced together. A Sequence acts like a virtual container for two or more separate tracks, so that you can edit everything in a unified transcript and timeline.

Getting Started

To create a Sequence, select and then drag the media files into a Composition. In the transcription confirmation window Descript will prompt you to provide Speaker Labels for each of the files, automatically setting your Speaker Labels throughout the Composition.

If the files are close to the same length, you'll also have the option to specify whether you would like to create a Sequence. Check Combine files into a multitrack Sequence create a new Sequence file in your project that contains the each of the tracks, then click Done when complete. Descript will automatically add the newly created Sequence to the Composition. If you leave the checkbox unchecked, your files will be added one after the other in the timeline.

Once the transcription has finished, your Sequence text will be displayed in the script editor as well as the timeline below. Now when you make edits, your files will be linked together so that they always stay in sync.

Re-aligning files

If the underlying Sequence tracks need to be re-aligned (because the recordings did not start at the same moment in time) you can follow these instructions to nudge your files back into alignment.

Creating Sequences from the Project Sidebar

You can create a Sequence by clicking the Add New... button in the Project Sidebar and selecting Sequence. From here, you may drag and drop files from the Project Files folder to create new tracks, or manually click Add New Track

You can also select multiple files in the Project Sidebar and click Create multitrack sequence in the options menu below.

Once the Sequence is created, it will become accessible from the "Sequences" folder in the Project Sidebar should you wish to add it to other Compositions in your Project.
