What does the “Beta” label mean in Descript?

Some features in Descript have a Beta label. This indicates the feature is ready for broad use, but still being actively improved — either because it’s powered by new technology (like an AI model) or because we’re collecting feedback to fine-tune how it works.

We need customers to use Beta features so we can learn how to improve them. The Beta label helps set that expectation.

Why we use Beta labels

We include a Beta label on features for a few reasons:

  • We’re monitoring performance. Some features stay in Beta while we gather data on performance across different setups and use cases.
  • They rely on new technology. Many features in Descript are built on cutting-edge tools. They’re valuable now, but may not get results right every time. That’s expected — and part of how they improve.
  • They’re still rolling out to all users. A Beta label can also mean the feature is working well, but not yet available on all platforms or browsers.

If a feature has a Beta label, our internal testing already shows that it's reliable and useful. Every Beta feature is actively supported, and we’re intentional about when we remove the label — usually when the feature performs better than expected.

Our goal is to be transparent about how a feature evolves so you feel confident using it — and know where to look for updates over time.
