Capturing Computer Audio When Recording a Window or Screen in Rooms and Web (MacOS)

By default, on MacOS, audio can only be captured from a browser tab when using Rooms or the web version of Descript. However, there are options to enable system audio when sharing an entire window or screen. This guide walks you through enabling computer audio capture for these recording modes.

Enabling System Audio Capture in Chrome (v125+)

To capture system audio in Chrome, you’ll need to enable a specific setting (flag) that isn’t turned on by default. Here’s how:

  1. Open Chrome (version 125 or later).
  2. In a new tab, type chrome://flags in the URL bar and press Enter.
  3. Use the search bar to find Mac System Audio Loopback for Screen Sharing.
  4. Set the flag to Enabled using the dropdown menu.
  5. Restart Chrome and open Descript.

When you start screen sharing, select Window or Entire Screen, and you’ll see an option to toggle Also share system audio. With this enabled, recordings will capture any audio generated by your computer.
