Apple's new desktop (Sonoma) and mobile OS (iOS 17) updates added the use of video conferencing features like video effects and reactions while using apps that capture video.
"Reactions" detects hand gestures from the video feed (like heart hands) and then adds a playful animation overlay to your video. You may also notice certain settings can automatically blur the video background. These features can be toggled on/off in your FaceTime settings.
To turn this feature on/off:
- Open an app that captures video, such as FaceTime.
- Click the Video icon in the menu bar, then click any of the following:
- Portrait
- Studio Light
- Reactions
Can these effects be removed after recording?
Unfortunately, no. These effects can not be removed after the recording has taken place.
