Underlord's AI Actions make your creative workflow faster, more efficient, and more enjoyable. Think of Underlord as your AI-powered sidekick — ready to help with time-saving shortcuts, helpful suggestions, or open-ended brainstorming. This article covers how to use Underlord to generate and apply AI responses in your projects.

Using Underlord

Underlord's custom actions are based only on the text you select. If you want an action to analyze the entire composition, make sure no text is selected before you start. If you're new to Underlord, you may also see recommended actions based on common tasks.

Generate an AI response

1. Create or open a project in Descript.
2. Open Underlord on the right-hand side of the app.
3. Click What do you want to do? at the top of the panel.
4. Type your custom prompt into the field.
5. Click Ask... or press Return (macOS) or Enter (Windows) to submit your request.
   

Using your AI response

After Underlord generates a response, you can choose from several actions:

• Done: Close the current chat and start a new one.
• Add to script: Insert the AI response into your current script.
• Apply edits to script: If the AI made edits, walk through the suggested changes to apply them.
• Copy to clipboard: Copy the text to paste into emails, websites, or social media.
• Copy edits to new composition: Create a new composition with the edited response inserted.
• Follow up: Refine your prompt or ask additional questions to improve your result.

Navigating multiple responses

If you refine your prompt or ask follow-up questions, you can navigate between all responses from the current session. This makes it easy to compare different results and revisit earlier outputs.

Other Underlord AI actions

Underlord offers several additional action categories designed to support editing, publishing, and repurposing your content:

• Sound Good: Add chapters, remove filler words, delete retakes, shorten word gaps, and organize scenes by speaker.
• Look Good: Improve visual presentation with AI tools like Eye Contact, Green Screen, automatic multicam, and image generation.
• Repurpose: Use AI to identify key clips, search your script, and find high-value content for reuse.
• Publish: Speed up publishing tasks by generating podcast notes, YouTube descriptions, social posts, and summaries.
• Write: Get AI help brainstorming, outlining, rewriting, or optimizing scripts for different formats.

Important things to know about Underlord

• Content quality: AI-generated responses may sometimes be inaccurate, inappropriate, or nonsensical. Always review content carefully before publishing.
• Privacy: Descript never shares your data with third-party companies for model training. We use third-party models with contracts that ensure your data stays private.
• Usage tracking: Descript may track your interactions with AI features (like accepting or regenerating a suggestion) to improve our tools — but this does not include your audio or video content.
• Consent for training: Descript will only use your actual project data (transcript, audio, video) to train our models if you explicitly consent. You can revoke consent at any time in your account settings.
