You can import GIFs and Zoom recordings directly into Descript using a web link. It's much faster and easier than downloading the file and then importing it into the app.
Adding a Zoom recording
Before importing a Zoom recording with a link
There are a couple things you need to set up in Zoom:
- Make sure you select Record to the Cloud when you start recording in Zoom. If you select Record on this Computer, you'll have to import the file from the storage location on your computer.
Click here to learn more about how to import files into Descript from your computer. - In the recording's share settings, make sure to set the "Who can view" parameter to Everyone with the recording link and that you have passcode disabled. Copy and pasting the Zoom recording into Descript
Required share settings
Before copying your Zoom link into Descript, make sure to set "Who can view" to Everyone with the recording link and enable Viewers can download. Learn more about share settings for Zoom cloud recordings.
- Copy the Zoom recording link:
- Go to your Zoom recording's window.
- Select the share button to the right of your recording and select Copy
- Open or create a Descript project.
- Select
at the top of the app.
- Select the Files tab in the top left of the media library panel.
- Select Add files in the top right of the panel and choose file from link...
- Paste the Zoom link in the text box, and press add file at the bottom of the panel.
After importing the recording, you should see the file or files in your media library.
Adding a file from GIPHY
- Copy the GIF link from GIPHY.
- Open or create a Descript project.
- Next, there are two ways you can add the GIF:
- Directly into your script by clicking in your script and pasting the link. The GIF will show up in your composition shortly after.
- To your project's media library:
- Select
at the top of the app.
- Select the Files tab in the top left of the media library panel.
- Select Add files in the top right of the panel and choose file from link from the dropdown menu.
- Paste the link in the text box and press add file at the bottom of the panel. You should now see the GIF in your media library.

Can I import links from YouTube or other third-party websites?
