Replacing an edited composition's transcript

Recording to a pre-written script can often result in a bunch of re-takes and a composition that includes multiple project files. Once you've got the edits lined up to the script, wouldn't it be great if Descript allowed you to replace your AI-generated transcript with the script you already have? You can!

Duplicate your composition first

Before proceeding, we recommend duplicating your composition in case you ever need to return to your original edits.

Here's how to replace your edited transcript:

  1. Use Flatten tracks; make sure to select Script track only.
  2. Use Replace transcript on the flattened project file.

Replace transcript looks for significant differences between the current script and the new script you'd like to replace it with and updates the transcript accordingly. It's possible that capitalization and punctuation variances may not propagate to the replaced version.
