Descript offers a discounted plan for nonprofits, schools, and educational institutions. Sometimes referred to as our nonprofit discount or education plan, it’s available to students, teachers, administrators, academic staff, and qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations.

Eligible teams can subscribe for just $5 per editor/month, billed monthly or annually.

Who qualifies and how to apply

The Non-Profit / Education plan is available to:

• Non-profit organizations with valid charitable status (501(c)(3) or equivalent)
• Students, educators, and administrators at accredited educational institutions

To apply:

1. Create a free Descript account using your nonprofit or school email address.
2. Add a payment method (you won’t be charged yet).
3. Submit the application form. Our team will review your request and follow up by email.

What’s included in the EDU/NFP subscription

The Non-Profit / Education plan includes all the features of the Hobbyist plan, with a reduced transcription limit of 4 hours per editor/month (the standard Hobbyist plan includes 10).

Pricing is a flat $5 per editor/month, regardless of your billing cycle.

How to switch your plan after approval

Once your application has been approved, you’ll need to manually switch your Drive to the EDU/NFP plan by following the steps below. These steps apply only after you've received confirmation from our team.

1. Sign in to Descript from the desktop app or at web.descript.com.
2. Click your Drive selector in the top left, then select Settings.
   
3. Go to the Subscription tab. If you have more than one Drive, make sure you've selected the correct one.
   
4. Click Change plan next to your current plan.
   
5. Choose any paid plan and billing cycle. On the next screen, you’ll be able to select the EDU/NFP option.
6. On the final screen, switch the plan to EDU/NFP. You can also adjust seat count, transcription limits, or update your payment method if needed. Click Save changes to apply the update.
