You can extend layers past scene boundaries. This can be helpful for various reasons, such as having captions play across multiple scenes. Extended layers will be contained within the first scene’s starting boundary and the last scene’s ending boundary. This is also a great way to ensure that elements like background music, overlays, or watermarks remain consistent across multiple scenes without needing to manually add them to each one.
Extending a layer in the Timeline
- Select the visual layer in your scene editor or the
audio or visual layer in the script or timeline.
- Hover your mouse over the edge of the layer in your Timeline until the trim icon appears.
- Click and drag the edge to the desired location.
Extending a layer in the properties panel
You can also change the duration of a layer directly from the properties panel by:

audio or visual layer in the script or timeline.
- Click the duration value in the Layer panel on the right-hand sidebar and change it to the desired length.
