Canvas overview

The Canvas contains all of a scene’s visual elements — the video, templates, titles, fancy captions, images, shapes, and so on. You can arrange and adjust the elements by clicking on them in the Canvas. It’s the primary work area for assembling and editing video in Descript, and it works kind of like a slide in a presentation app like PowerPoint.

Please note that the Canvas will not be visible in audio only compositions.

Canvas toolbar

The canvas toolbar allows you to quickly replace media or adjust the layer properties, which include size, position, rotation, cropping, and angle rounding, of a selected visual and access additional canvas tools.

Scene toolbar

This toolbar appears when nothing is selected and controls different Scene functions to access additional canvas tools.

Canvas visual media types

Script track visuals will have a purple border when you select them in the Canvas. All other visuals will have a blue border when selected.
