Projects overview

Projects are containers for everything you create in Descript. They store your compositions, media files, and sequences. Projects are accessible from the Drive view.

What's in a project?

Each project includes three types of assets:

  • Compositions – where you write, edit, and assemble your content. You’ll typically start your work here.
  • Project files – the audio and visual media you import into Descript or record directly in the app.
  • Sequences – used to sync multiple tracks (e.g. interviews with multiple speakers) for unified editing.

Access your compositions

Every project starts with one composition. To view or create more:

  1. Click your project's name at the top of the editor to open the Compositions panel.
  2. Click the dropdown next to a composition name to manage, rename, or create new ones.
