Projects overview

Projects are the containers for the content you create in Descript. They store all of your compositions, project files, and sequences. Projects are accessible through the Drive view.

Project structure

Projects contain 3 main types of assets:

  • Compositions are where you edit and assemble — potentially even create — your content.
  • Project files contain the media files you will use in your compositions. They include any audio or visuals you import into your project and the recordings you create directly in Descript.
  • Sequences are virtual containers used in compositions. Sequences allow you to align multiple media files together so that the aligned media will stay in sync while you're editing. For example, sequences are useful if you have multiple speaker files from the same interview that need to be in sync.

Accessing compositions

When you create a project, you'll start with one composition. Clicking on your project's name opens the compositions panel, where you can create, view, and manage compositions in your project. To access the composition panel later, simply click on the down arrow next to the composition's name.

Accessing project files and sequences

Your compositions, project files, and sequences can be found in the Project panel.
