# Troubleshooting Video and Audio Issues When Using the Local Export Destination

> Fix out-of-sync audio, failed exports, and common error messages that appear when saving video or audio files to your computer.

We recommend using the [Descript (web link)](/export-and-share/export-and-publishing-overview) export destination to export audio and video (and then download the file) instead of using a Local export option and flow. Descript (web link) can be up to 10 times faster than exporting audio/video files, and we find it more stable than local exports.

<Accordion title="The audio or video is out of sync after a local export">
If you recorded your files outside of Descript, the source file may have unsupported encoding or corrupted metadata, which can cause sync issues.

Try opening the original file in a video player to see if it's also out of sync. If it is:

* Try re-exporting the original file using the same settings.
* Try re-exporting with a different file extension or encoding.
* Contact the third-party hardware or software provider for help troubleshooting the issue.

<Accordion title=""Export failed" error messages">
If your export fails, here's how to interpret the error message and what to do about it.

#### Error: Could not get local path for requested asset

This means a file is missing—possibly because it hasn't finished downloading. Wait for the download to complete and try again, or [replace the file using this guide](/add-and-manage-media/ts-missing-files).

#### Error: Cannot create a word with endTime ≤ startTime

This typically points to corrupted alignment data. To fix this, go to the **Help** menu > **Debug** > **Force fix corrupted alignment**.

This may be caused by a low frame rate setting in your composition. Try increasing the frame rate from the [Aspect ratio and video settings](/working-in-projects/aspect-ratio) menu.

<Accordion title="Error messages when exporting locally from the web version">
[Descript for Web](/getting-started/descript-for-web) supports [local exports](/export-and-share/video-gif) of video, audio, and GIFs. It works best in Chromium-based browsers like Chrome, Edge, or Opera. You may see errors when using Safari, Firefox, or Internet Explorer.

* **“File format is currently not supported on web.”**\
Your project may include [ProRes or other unsupported formats](/add-and-manage-media/supported-file-types). These can't be exported from the browser. Exporting as a GIF also doesn't work on unsupported browsers.
* **“Your script is using all the available memory for processing.”**\
Try our publishing feature instead. You can also try exporting using the [Descript (web link)](/export-and-share/share-page) destination.
* **“Export failed due to file system limits in your browser.”**\
The file may be too large for your browser to handle. Try the [Descript (web link)](/export-and-share/share-page) destination instead.
* **“Export failed due to a network connectivity issue.”**\
Check your internet connection and try again.

If you're having issues, try exporting from the desktop app. Or export to the [Descript (web link)](/export-and-share/share-page) destination and then download your file.

<Accordion title="The operation failed because it would exceed the browser’s storage quota">
The **QuotaExceeded** error means your browser has run out of system resources like storage or memory. It’s most often related to **localStorage** limits on low disk space or large caches.

<Note>
**Tip for desktop app users**

If you're on the desktop app, try the general tips below before browser-specific steps.
</Note>

#### Quick fixes

1. Free up at least **20 GB** of local disk space.
2. Close other tabs and windows to free up memory.
3. **Bookmark the Descript web editor** to enable *persistent storage*. [Learn more](https://web.dev/articles/persistent-storage).
4. Clear your browser cache and refresh the page.\
**Don't do this if you have files pending recovery.**

#### Other things to try

* Update your browser to the latest version.
* Switch from Incognito/Private mode to a normal browsing window, or use a different browser.
* Reset site permissions for descript.com and restart the browser.
* [Review general performance tips](/app-troubleshooting/performance-playback).
* Check antivirus or firewall settings that might block Descript.
* Disable settings that auto-delete site data on close. For example: **"Delete data sites have saved to your device when you close all windows"**.

#### Browser-specific pointers

* **Chrome / Edge**
* Go to **Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > View permissions and data stored across sites**.
* Search for **descript.com**, then either **Clear data** or confirm it’s not being cleared on close.
* Under **Cookies and other site data**, ensure site data isn’t cleared on close for descript.com.
* **Safari**
* Go to **Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data**.
* Find and remove **descript.com**, then reload the page.
* If you’re using Private Browsing, switch to a standard window.

If your browser continues to restrict storage, switch to the [Descript desktop app](/getting-started/install).
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="Error: "Demuxed segment has no video streams" or "Expected only one video stream"">
This error typically means Descript found a part of your video file that should contain video — but doesn’t. It usually points to a corrupted file segment or a glitch during recording. Our engineering team is aware and working on a fix. The following workarounds can help in the meantime:

* **Export from the desktop app:**\
If you're using Descript in a browser, open the project in the desktop app and export from there. This resolves the issue in many cases.
* **Download from a share page:**\
If you’ve already exported to a Descript share page, download the file directly from that link. [Learn how to export to a web link or share page](/export-and-share/share-page).
* **Re-encode your video file:**\
If the issue persists, use [Handbrake](https://handbrake.fr/), a free open-source app, to re-encode your video:

1. If the video was recorded in Descript, download the source file from your project [via the project file actions menu.](/add-and-manage-media/project-file-actions)
2. Open the file in Handbrake.
3. In the **Video** tab, set **Framerate (FPS)** to **Constant Framerate**.
4. Export the re-encoded file from Handbrake.
5. [Replace the original file in your project](/add-and-manage-media/replace-file) with the new version.

[Watch a walkthrough of the re-encode process here](https://share.descript.com/view/GjWYPhv3oA5)
