# Export an Audio File

> Export your composition from Descript as an MP3, WAV, or M4A audio file.

Turn any composition into an audio file. Choose **Local export** as the destination for the full format, bitrate, and loudness options.

## Export settings

| Current composition                 | Exports your currently selected [composition](https://help.descript.com/hc/en-us/articles/10164608563597).                                                       |
| Current selection                   | Exports only the text you've selected in your script.                                                                                                            |
| Current scene                       | Exports the full [scene](/getting-started/scenes) based on the playhead location (for video compositions).                                                       |
| Scenes                              | Exports individual audio files for each [scene](/getting-started/scenes) in the composition.                                                                     |
| Markers                             | Exports individual audio files for each [Marker](/script-editing/markers-chapters) in the composition.                                                           |
| Line breaks                         | Exports separate audio files for each section of text separated by line breaks.                                                                                  |
| All compositions                    | Batch exports an audio file for every composition in your project.                                                                                               |
| **Format**                          | Choose from `.m4a`, `.wav`, or `.mp3`.                                                                                                                           |

| Channels                            | Select mono (1) or stereo (2) output.                                                                                                                            |
| Sample rate                         | Choose 44100 Hz or 48000 Hz.                                                                                                                                     |
| Audio bitrate                       | Select from: 32 kbps, 48 kbps, 64 kbps, 96 kbps, 128 kbps, 160 kbps, 192 kbps, or 256 kbps. Available for `.m4a` and `.mp3` exports only.                        |
| Normalize volume                    | Choose from: Off, Peak, -14 LUFS, -16 LUFS, -18 LUFS, -23 LUFS, or -24 LUFS.                                                                                     |
| **Metadata** Metadata icon          | Add or remove metadata like show title, episode title, description, artwork, and markers/chapters. Note: `.wav` files do not support artwork or chapter markers. |
