Ever wonder what all those colors mean with your AI speaker text? We uncover the mysteries so you can be informed. ## Text-to-speech text colors and what to do ### Light blue text Text has been added to a [composition](/working-in-projects/overview), but no AI speaker has been assigned. You will also see this color text if an AI speech has been assigned, but write mode is currently enabled. **What to do:** Assign an AI speaker if needed or disable Write mode to generate speech. [Light blue text is placeholder text or generated AI speech that is being edited.](/images/external/descript-20791410876813-55799ce658.png) ### Pulsing dark blue text AI speech is currently being generated and will appear soon. **What to do:** Wait for the generation process to complete. [Pulsing dark blue text is AI speech that is currently being generated.](/images/external/descript-20792173072781-2a7c0f3a3e.gif) ### Dark blue text AI speech has been generated, and Write mode is currently disabled; the AI speech has not yet been converted to audio. **What to do:** Enable Write mode or play the script to convert it to audio. [Black text is AI speech that has been converted to audio.](/images/external/descript-20792166743309-d6a1b41ffa.png) ### Black text with an orange dotted underline AI speech has failed to generate, typically from a faulty internet connection interrupting the generation process. **What to do:** Ensure a stable internet connection and retry generating AI speech. [Black text with an orange underline is AI speech that has failed to generate.](/images/external/descript-23567484612621-16be2f6ca0.png) ### Grey text with a strikeout This is what your transcript looks like as you make your Regenerate edits. **What to do:** Continue editing until satisfied. ### Grey pulsing text with a grey dotted underline Regenerate speech is currently being generated and will appear soon. **What to do:** Wait for the process to complete. [2024-11-11_13-30-33.gif](/images/external/descript-20792779741325-678dd6519a.gif) ### Black text with grey dotted underline Regenerate speech has been generated but has yet to be converted to audio. **What to do:** Play the script to convert it to audio. ### Yellow / Gold text with a grey dotted underline The AI speech cannot be generated because the **legacy** AI Speaker being used lacks consent or valid training audio. \*\*What to do:\*\*Try creating a [new AI speaker](/ai-speech/custom-speaker) and then [apply the new AI speaker](/script-editing/speakers) to the project or section. 2025-03-25_07-33-50.png ### Black Regenerate text Regenerated text that has been converted to audio will be black. This will match all your other non-Regenerated script content. **What to do:** No action needed.
