NOTE: If you're running macOS 10.13.2 or later, this feature is temporarily disabled due to a bug with macOS speech synthesis.

Descript allows you to insert Scratch Text which is spoken by a synthesized voice, into any composition. Scratch Text is useful if you're trying to get a feel for your story before you've recorded all of the audio.

To insert Scratch Text, just type within a composition that's in Editing Audio mode. Descript will automatically insert a synthesized reading of what you've typed.

Scratch Text is colored red within your composition and grey in the Waveform Editor, so you can quickly see what you still need to record.

You can change the 'Synthesized Speech Voice' reading your text. This means you can have different synthesized voices for every person you intend to record.

For more information on how to add Speakers as well as how to change their settings, see the Working with Speakers article.
